My First Experience with Netlfix Original Content

I recently finished the Netflix original series House of Cards.  I've watched full series on Netflix before but this was my first foray in to original content on a platform like this.  The pros of this kind of programming roll out are obvious.Even though the full season was released on February 1st, I didn't start watching it until early April.  Normally, if I plan on watching a television series, I'll be there from the beginning.  Not necessarily because I'm really looking forward to it, but I don't like to have anything spoiled for me.  My daily magazine and Internet reading material has the potential to spoil things for me if I fall too far behind.  Or if it becomes a buzz worthy show, my friends might accidentally clue me in on something I may not know.  I guess I have an unnatural desire to be caught up.  But this is where the biggest con comes in.  I did watch the season yet I feel like if I did want to talk about it, I'm on an island.  Even the one person who I thought would watch it if it was on regular television doesn't have Netflix and has no urgency to subscribe.  He figured he'll just "Free Trial" it when Arrested Development Season 4 gets released and plow through them both then.  (Without being spoilery) Luckily, House of Cards isn't a water cooler show.  It was entertaining but there isn't really a lot I would want to text a friend about after watching a new episode.  It actually felt like I was watching a show that aired on basic cable last year and I was just catching up.With Arrested Development on the other hand, I'm actually worried about how that whole viewing experience is going to go.  That was a show me and my friends would talk about and quote for the whole week before the next one aired.  What if everyone I know doesn't devour at least half the season on May 26th?  How will I know which quotes and can throw in to conversations and when it's okay to do it so?  First world problems I guess.

Command your laptop through your voice in Windows 7

Command your laptop through your voice in Windows 7-- Prashanta Prasad DevkotaDate: 02-Jul-2013I don't know about you guys, but I've always wished to give commands to my computer just by speaking to it. As Windows7 has replaced Windows XP, most people use it without even knowing that Windows 7 has speech recognition built into it. What this means for the average user is that you can speak to your computer and it will respond accordingly. Simply type 'speech' into the start menu and 'Windows Speech Recognition' should be highlighted. Run the program and if this is the first time you are running it, you will be paced through a tutorial that is very easy to follow.Just one warning though, the tutorial takes around 30 minutes to complete, but I can assure you that those 30 minutes are worth it for all the fun you will be having later on.Here are a few things that I've been doing:1. Move the mouse using my voice2. Launch various programs (like MS-Word, Excel, Firefox, Chrome, My Astrology Software etc) simply by saying their names. An example would be: "Start Firefox" and firefox would be started. Yes it is fun.3. I've always wanted a personal secretary and though I still can't afford one, it was pretty fun dictating to Microsoft Word. The accuracy amazed me but you will have to speak very clearly. Also it helps if you train the 'Speech Recognition' software to recognize your voice.4. Execute various menus inside any program.5. Open 'My Computer' and browse to any location simply by telling the computer to do so.6. Browse my Pictures collection and start slideshows by telling the computer to do soand so on....So as you can see, it is really fun and if you are using Windows 7, it is already built in.Things you will need1. A headphone with a microphone2. Windows 7CaveatsIt really helps with the accuracy of speech recognition if you train the program a few times. Also I would recommend completing the tutorial at least once.Other than a few issues, speech recognition works great and I had a blast using it. Have fun!

As The Shit Hits The Fan at KTVU, A Producer in the Building; Quick Bullet Points

'Oh ***t' KTVU producer Brad Belstock, pictured, tweeted these two words yesterday after the humiliating broadcast went outKTVU producer, Brad Belstock (pictured), tweeted out, "Oh shit" on Friday. Indeed.Quick bullet points:*Blaming an NTSB intern is counter-productive and doesn't help KTVU. There is NO excuse. Own up to the mistake, (as KTVU did in its apology), and move on.*I'm sorry, but anyone with a quarter-brain reading those names would IMMEDIATELY have TOSSED the sheet. Still cannot fathom how that sheet made it past the desk, to the anchor chair.*Tori Campbell is known for being less-than-friendly--this whole affair isn't going to help her.*Karma factor: Several stations in the market aren't shedding any tears for KTVU. One major reason is the station's boasting of its coverage of the Asiana jet crash, (two days after it happened), and openly antagonizing other competitors. KPIX pounced on the KTVU mishap, (on its own website) and other personnel from the Battery gulch have been full of glee.*One major KTVU personality who was fortunate to have been away from the studios said many staffers are miserable. *Frank Somerville deserves a gold medal for valor; it was Somerville who read KTVU's apology and while it won't stop the rash, it was both emotionally resonant and convincing.*Follow me on Twitter*Tips-Inter-office e-mails: Rich.Lieberman@Gmail.com *All tips provided strictly confidentialThe PULSE of the MEDIA World from San Francisco, LA, Vegas and Beyond. Summer days

I forgot to post Alex's stats from his 15 month check up.  He is 22 lbs, 15.5 oz, and 31 inches long.  He's getting so big!  There have been a few times when I have had to carry both boys, and walking carrying 50 lbs of boys is not easy!  Alex also got his first molar a few weeks ago when the boys were down in St. Pete.  Apparently that wasn't a fun night, so I'm glad I wasn't there.Last weekend we started swim lessons with the boys at the YMCA.  They both do "mommy and me" classes, so Matthew entertains one while the other one is in the pool with me.  Alex did much better than Robbie, but I expected that because Robbie really doesn't like getting his head wet.  Alex did reach for the side a few times, but he's less vocal, smaller and easier to keep hold of than Robbie is. Both of their classes were larger than usual because one of the pools was closed and they had 2 classes instead of one, so it should be better next weekend with less people in the pool and easier to hear the swim instructor.Getting used to the waterKicking his feet.Sitting on the side.Ready to come back in.Robbie smiled after Matt took the picture, but that's pretty much how he looked the whole lesson.Alex during Robbie's swim lesson.Tuesday we spent time outside in the inflatable pool.  The boys were using me as a slide, but when Alex wanted to swing I pulled the little slide over to the pool and Robbie had a blast sliding in!Then we had a picnic in the "woods".Robbie has been asking us to use the potty.  He still wears pull ups.  I'm just not ready to deal with underwear and accidents, though I know I'm going to have to eventually!  I printed some potty training charts and Matthew bought Angry Birds stickers and here is how his chart looks:  (There are even more stickers under the big ones, too!)Robbie is starting to sing more.  I love it!  He had a toy that you pull the handle and it either makes animal noises ("The _____ says ____") or sings a song.  I showed Robbie how to point the arrow to the song section and he played "The Farmer in the Dell" over and over and started singing along.
